Duration: One Month.

Eligibility: Graduation or Equivalent is required.

Objective: The Certified Arc Flash Safety Specialist course is designed to equip participants with in-depth knowledge and practical skills to prevent and manage arc flash incidents in industrial and commercial electrical systems. The course covers the fundamentals of arc flash phenomena, hazard identification, incident energy analysis, arc flash boundary calculations, and proper labeling requirements. Participants will learn to select appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), implement safe work practices, apply lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and maintain equipment to minimize arc flash risks. 

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Arc Flash Hazards and Safety Concepts: Definition and causes of arc flash incidents, Differences between arc flash, arc blast, and electric shock, Common workplace conditions leading to arc flash, Overview of electrical safety principles and energy flow, Importance of arc flash safety in industrial environments, Roles and responsibilities of an Arc Flash Safety Specialist.

Module 2: Standards, Regulations, and Compliance Requirements: Key standards and regulations (NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, OSHA, IEC), Understanding regulatory obligations for employers and employees, Incident energy analysis and arc flash labeling requirements, Compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards, Documentation and recordkeeping requirements, Roles of inspection and enforcement agencies.

Module 3: Arc Flash Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification: Conducting arc flash risk assessments and system studies, Identifying high-risk equipment and working conditions, Calculating incident energy levels and arc flash boundaries, Labeling electrical panels with calculated data, Use of software tools for arc flash analysis, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for arc flash-related tasks.

Module 4: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Safety Tools: Selection of arc-rated clothing and PPE based on incident energy, Use and maintenance of arc flash suits, gloves, face shields, and balaclavas, Insulated tools and voltage-rated safety gear, Proper storage, inspection, and disposal of PPE, PPE limitations and compatibility considerations, Training workers on proper PPE use and care.

Module 5: Safe Work Practices and Procedures: Establishing electrically safe work conditions, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures specific to arc flash risk, Approach boundaries and restricted area controls, Energized electrical work permit requirements, Safe switching procedures and work zone setup, Communication protocols and emergency planning.

Module 6: Emergency Response, Training, and Continuous Improvement: Emergency response to arc flash incidents (fire, burns, injuries), First aid for arc flash victims including burn treatment, Incident investigation and root cause analysis, Developing and implementing arc flash safety training programs, Conducting mock drills and emergency preparedness activities, Continuous improvement through audits, feedback, and lessons learned from incidents.
