Duration: One Month.

Eligibility: Graduation or Equivalent is required.

Objective: The Certified High Voltage Safety Specialist course is designed to provide specialized knowledge and practical skills for working safely with high voltage equipment typically used in power generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial applications. The course covers HV system components, arc flash hazards, insulation and grounding practices, switching procedures, live-line working techniques, personal protective equipment (PPE), and lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols. Participants will learn to conduct risk assessments, follow emergency procedures, and comply with safety standards such as NFPA 70E, OSHA, IEC, and IEEE guidelines.

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to High Voltage Systems and Safety Fundamentals: Definition and classification of high voltage (HV) systems, Overview of HV applications in industries, power plants, and substations, Key components of HV systems (circuit breakers, transformers, insulators), Common hazards associated with HV equipment and operations, Roles and responsibilities of a High Voltage Safety Specialist, Importance of adherence to safety regulations and standards (IEC, OSHA, IS).

Module 2: Electrical Hazards and Risk Assessment in HV Environments: Types of electrical hazards (shock, arc flash, arc blast, burns), Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) specific to HV systems, Approach boundaries and limited access zones, Safe working distances and arc flash boundary calculations, Use of job safety analysis (JSA) and permit-to-work systems, Evaluating risks during installation, operation, and maintenance.

Module 3: HV Safety Procedures, Lockout/Tagout, and Isolation: Safe switching procedures and operational protocols, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for HV systems, Isolation, grounding, and discharge of stored energy, Testing for absence of voltage and verification practices, Use of insulating sticks, grounding devices, and voltage indicators, Coordination and communication during HV switching operations.

Module 4: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Safe Work Practices: Selection and use of PPE for HV work (arc-rated clothing, gloves, face shields), PPE maintenance and inspection protocols, Tools and equipment safety (insulated ladders, hot sticks), Safe work practices for indoor and outdoor HV equipment, Emergency preparedness for electrical incidents, Fall protection and confined space safety in HV operations.

Module 5: HV Equipment Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance Safety: Inspection and maintenance of HV switchgear, transformers, and control panels, Safety protocols during insulation resistance testing and hi-pot tests, Infrared thermography and condition monitoring of HV equipment, Oil testing and partial discharge monitoring, Pre-commissioning and shutdown safety inspections, Reporting defects and non-conformities in HV systems.

Module 6: HV Safety Standards, Compliance, and Emergency Response: Relevant standards and codes (IEC 61936, NFPA 70E, IS 5613), Legal and regulatory compliance requirements, Electrical safety audits and documentation, Emergency response procedures for HV electrical accidents, Accident investigation and root cause analysis, Case studies on HV incidents and lessons learned for safety improvement.
