Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/C/CMIGW/V1

Duration: One Month.

Eligibility: 10th Grade (High School) or Equivalent is required.

Objective: The objective of the Certified Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welder course is to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to perform MIG welding using inert gas shielding. The course covers welding principles, equipment setup, wire feeding techniques, torch handling, metal types, joint preparation, safety protocols, and weld quality inspection. 

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to MIG Welding: Overview of MIG welding process, Comparison with other welding methods, Applications of MIG welding, Roles and responsibilities of a MIG welder, Basic welding terminology, Safety standards in MIG welding.

Module 2: MIG Welding Equipment and Consumables: Components of MIG welding machines, Types of welding wires and electrodes, Shielding gases and mixtures, Welding power sources and settings, Equipment setup and maintenance, Troubleshooting common issues.

Module 3: Welding Techniques and Procedures: Setting welding parameters (voltage, wire feed speed, gas flow), Torch handling and angle, Welding positions and joint types, Starting and stopping welds, Controlling bead shape and penetration, Techniques for minimizing defects.

Module 4: Welding of Various Materials: MIG welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other alloys, Surface preparation and cleaning, Handling different material thicknesses, Preheat and post-weld treatment, Dealing with material-specific challenges, Weld quality assurance.

Module 5: Quality Control and Inspection: Visual inspection of welds, Common welding defects and their causes, Non-destructive testing methods, Documentation and compliance with standards, Repair and rework procedures, Continuous improvement in welding quality.

Module 6: Safety and Environmental Considerations: Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, Electrical safety and fire hazards, Ventilation and fume extraction, Safe handling and storage of gases and materials, Waste management and environmental protection, Emergency preparedness and response.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
