Certification Name: Certified Sommelier

Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/HT/CS/V1

Duration: One Month.

Eligibility: 10+2 Grade (Higher Secondary) or Equivalent is required.

Objective: The Certified Sommelier course is designed to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge of wines, including viticulture, vinification, grape varieties, and wine-producing regions across the world. The course emphasizes wine tasting techniques, food and wine pairing principles, wine storage and preservation, and proper wine service etiquette. 

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Wine and Sommelier Role: History and evolution of wine, Role and responsibilities of a sommelier, Overview of wine production and global wine industry, Introduction to major wine styles and classifications, Wine tasting fundamentals and terminology, Professional ethics and service standards.

Module 2: Viticulture and Vinification: Grape varieties and their characteristics, Wine-growing regions and terroir influences, Vineyard management and harvesting techniques, Wine production processes (red, white, rosé, sparkling), Aging and maturation of wine, Organic, biodynamic, and natural wine practices.

Module 3: Wine Regions of the World: Key wine regions of France, Italy, and Spain, Overview of New World wine countries (USA, Australia, South Africa, Chile), Regional grape varietals and labeling laws, Appellations and quality classifications, Notable producers and wine styles, Impact of climate and geography on wine.

Module 4: Wine Tasting and Evaluation: Steps of professional wine tasting (sight, nose, palate), Identifying aromas and flavors in wine, Wine faults and how to detect them, Scoring and judging wines, Conducting wine flights and blind tastings, Creating tasting notes and pairing recommendations.

Module 5: Wine and Food Pairing: Principles of food and wine pairing, Complementary and contrasting pairing strategies, Pairing wine with different cuisines and ingredients, Wine service during multi-course meals, Menu planning with wine pairing, Dealing with challenging flavors and dietary needs.

Module 6: Wine Service, Storage, and Sales: Wine list design and pricing strategies, Opening and serving wine professionally, Wine glassware and decanting techniques, Wine storage conditions and cellar management, Sales techniques and customer engagement, Managing wine inventory and cost control.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
