The course focuses on addiction psychology, types and stages of addiction, screening and assessment tools, relapse prevention, treatment planning, individual and group counseling approaches, and recovery support strategies.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Addiction and Substance Use Disorders: Definition and types of addiction: substance and behavioral, Understanding commonly abused substances and their effects, Stages and cycle of addiction, Risk factors: biological, psychological, and social, Overview of DSM-5 criteria for substance use disorders, Roles and responsibilities of an addiction counselor.

Module 2: Psychological and Physiological Aspects of Addiction: Impact of addiction on the brain and body systems, Co-occurring mental health disorders (dual diagnosis), Behavioral signs and psychological patterns of dependency, Craving, tolerance, withdrawal, and relapse mechanisms, Neurobiology of addiction and reward systems, Trauma, stress, and their links to substance use.

Module 3: Counseling Skills and Therapeutic Approaches: Basic counseling skills: empathy, active listening, rapport building, Motivational interviewing techniques and stages of change, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in addiction counseling, Solution-focused and person-centered approaches, Group therapy principles and facilitation skills, Managing denial, resistance, and ambivalence.

Module 4: Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning: Conducting intake interviews and psychosocial assessments, Screening tools and diagnostic criteria for substance abuse, Developing individualized treatment plans and setting goals, Levels of care: detox, inpatient, outpatient, aftercare, Monitoring progress and adjusting interventions, Documentation, record-keeping, and confidentiality.

Module 5: Relapse Prevention and Recovery Support: Identifying triggers, high-risk situations, and relapse patterns, Teaching coping strategies and stress management techniques, 12-step programs and alternative recovery models, Family involvement and support in recovery, Peer support and community resources, Life skills development for long-term sobriety.

Module 6: Ethics, Legal Issues and Professional Practice: Code of ethics and boundaries in addiction counseling, Confidentiality laws (HIPAA) and informed consent, Cultural competence and working with diverse populations, Legal aspects of substance use and treatment mandates, Self-care, supervision, and burnout prevention, Career development and continuing education in addiction counseling.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
