Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/FS/CCF/V1

Duration: One Month.

Eligibility: Graduation or Equivalent is required.

Objective: The Certified Chemical Firefighter course is designed to equip participants with specialized knowledge and tactical skills for managing fire emergencies involving flammable, toxic, and reactive chemicals. The course covers chemical properties and behaviors, fire chemistry, identification and classification of hazardous materials (HAZMAT), use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and risk assessment techniques.

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Chemical Firefighting and Hazardous Materials: Overview of chemical fire risks and classifications, Differences between chemical, flammable liquid, and gas fires, Role and responsibilities of a Chemical Firefighter, Types of hazardous materials and their fire behaviors, Importance of chemical compatibility and reactivity awareness, Fire behavior in storage tanks, pipelines, and chemical plants.

Module 2: Chemical Properties, Labels, and Identification Systems: Understanding chemical properties: flash point, auto-ignition, flammability range, Use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Hazard communication standards and GHS labeling, NFPA 704 and HMIS identification systems, Placards, labels, and chemical container markings, Identifying unknown chemicals during emergencies.

Module 3: Specialized Firefighting Agents and Suppression Techniques: Types of extinguishing agents for chemical fires (dry chemical, foam, CO₂, water mist), Compatibility of extinguishing agents with reactive substances, Firefighting strategies for flammable liquids, gases, and metals, Use of fixed and portable suppression systems, Application of foam for spill fires and bunded areas, Cooling techniques and containment strategies.

Module 4: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Respiratory Protection: Selection and use of chemical-resistant PPE and fire suits, Levels of protection (A, B, C, D) for hazardous environments, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) handling and limitations, Decontamination procedures for personnel and equipment, PPE inspection, maintenance, and donning/doffing protocols, Thermal and chemical exposure safety precautions.

Module 5: Incident Command, Rescue Operations, and Decontamination: Establishing an Incident Command System (ICS) during chemical fires, Evacuation, isolation, and hazard zone control, Rescue techniques in hazardous material environments, Use of gas detectors and monitoring devices, Decontamination zones and contamination control, Coordination with hazmat teams and emergency medical services.

Module 6: Legal Compliance, Fire Investigation, and Case Studies: Chemical safety regulations and fire service obligations (OSHA, EPA, MSIHC Rules), Reporting requirements and documentation during chemical fire incidents, Post-incident fire and explosion investigation procedures, Learning from major industrial chemical fire case studies, Root cause analysis and corrective action planning, Emergency response planning and continuous improvement practices.

  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
