Objective: The Certified Editorial Designer course is designed to develop professional expertise in crafting visually compelling and reader-friendly layouts for editorial content across print and digital media. The course focuses on the principles of editorial design, including typographic hierarchy, grid systems, visual balance, and narrative flow. Learners will gain hands-on experience using tools like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to design magazines, newspapers, journals, newsletters, and e-publications.

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Editorial Design: Understanding editorial design and its role in publishing, Types of editorial content (magazines, newspapers, journals, e-publications), Key differences between editorial and commercial design, Structure and workflow of editorial projects, Understanding the editorial brief and content hierarchy, Role of editorial design in storytelling and reader engagement.

Module 2: Typography and Text Composition: Fundamentals of editorial typography (serif vs sans-serif, hierarchy, grid-based layout), Creating typographic contrast and rhythm, Setting headlines, subheads, body text, and pull quotes, Managing hyphenation, justification, and paragraph styles, Ensuring readability and accessibility in long-form content, Working with typographic scales and stylesheets.

Module 3: Layout Systems and Grids: Designing using grid systems (modular, columnar, baseline grids), Working with master pages and consistent margins, Visual balance and whitespace management, Creating templates for multi-page layouts, Designing spreads, covers, TOCs, and feature pages, Using visual hierarchy to guide reader flow.

Module 4: Imagery, Graphics, and Visual Elements: Selecting and placing editorial images and illustrations, Photo editing and cropping for layout impact, Using infographics and data visualizations in editorial contexts, Legal and ethical considerations for image use, Combining text and visuals for narrative cohesion, Enhancing storytelling with visual metaphors.

Module 5: Tools and Digital Production Workflow: Using Adobe InDesign for editorial design and layout, Integrating Photoshop and Illustrator assets into documents, Setting up documents for print and digital publishing, Pre-flighting, packaging, and export settings, Designing for interactive PDFs and e-magazines, Version control and file organization for editorial teams.

Module 6: Editorial Projects and Portfolio Building: Designing complete editorial pieces (magazine spreads, newspaper layouts, digital journals), Interpreting briefs and collaborating with writers/editors, Simulating client feedback and revision cycles, Quality control and preparing for print or digital distribution, Assembling a portfolio of editorial design projects, Presenting and articulating design rationale to clients or publishers.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
