Eligibility: Graduation or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: The Certified Fact-Checker course is designed to equip participants with the essential skills and methodologies needed to verify information accurately and combat misinformation across media platforms. The course covers the principles of fact-checking, source evaluation, verification techniques, digital literacy, detecting bias and manipulation, and the use of fact-checking tools and databases.

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Module 1: Introduction to Fact-Checking: Role and importance of fact-checking in journalism and media, History and evolution of fact-checking, Types of misinformation and disinformation, Differences between editing, proofreading, and fact-checking, Key responsibilities and skills of a fact-checker, Overview of fact-checking organizations and initiatives.

Module 2: Fact-Checking Process and Workflow: Step-by-step fact-checking methodology, Planning and scoping fact-checking tasks, Evaluating claims and statements for verification, Collaborating with writers, editors, and researchers, Documentation and transparency in corrections, Time management and deadline handling in editorial settings.

Module 3: Research Tools and Verification Techniques: Using primary vs secondary sources effectively, Government and official databases, Open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques, Cross-referencing news and academic sources, Reverse image search and geolocation tools, Browser extensions and platforms used in professional fact-checking.

Module 4: Evaluating Credibility and Detecting Misinformation: Assessing source credibility and bias, Identifying fake news, deepfakes, and altered content, Logical fallacies and misleading language, Red flags in data and statistics, Spotting fabricated quotes and manipulated visuals, Handling viral and fast-moving news claims.

Module 5: Legal, Ethical, and Editorial Standards: Journalistic codes of ethics and accountability, Copyright, libel, and defamation concerns, Plagiarism detection and prevention, Handling sensitive and controversial topics, Balancing neutrality with truth, Ensuring fairness and transparency in corrections.

Module 6: Publishing, Reporting, and Career Development: Writing fact-checking reports and ratings clearly, Formatting for digital and print platforms, Collaborating with editorial and social media teams, Building a fact-checking portfolio, Career paths in newsrooms, NGOs, and research organizations, Staying updated with tools, trends, and global misinformation threats.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
