Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/AD/CFD/V1

Eligibility: 10+2 (higher Secondary) or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: The Certified Furniture Designer course aims to provide in-depth knowledge and practical training in the art and science of furniture design. It equips students with a strong foundation in design principles, ergonomics, material selection, joinery techniques, and sustainable practices. The course emphasizes creativity, functionality, and user comfort while fostering skills in sketching, 3D modeling, and prototyping. Students will gain hands-on experience with digital tools (like CAD/CAM), understand manufacturing processes, and learn to balance aesthetics with practical constraints such as durability, cost, and production feasibility.

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Fundamentals of Furniture Design: History of furniture design, Elements and principles of design, Human ergonomics and anthropometry, Types and styles of furniture, Basic design process, Functionality and aesthetics.

Module 2: Materials and Construction Techniques: Wood and wood-based materials, Metal, plastic, and glass in furniture, Upholstery materials and methods, Joinery and fastening techniques, Finishing and surface treatments, Sustainable and eco-friendly materials.

Module 3: Drawing, Sketching, and Visualization: Freehand sketching techniques, Technical drawing and dimensioning, Orthographic and isometric projections, Perspective rendering, Digital sketching tools, Mood boards and concept boards.

Module 4: Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and 3D Modeling: Introduction to CAD software, 2D drafting for furniture, 3D modeling and rendering, Parametric design tools, Creating exploded views and assemblies, Design documentation and presentation.

Module 5: Prototyping and Manufacturing Processes: Model making and mockups, CNC machining and laser cutting, Workshop tools and equipment, Assembly line and batch production, Quality control and testing, Safety standards in furniture manufacturing.

Module 6: Design Business and Professional Practice: Client brief and requirement analysis, Costing and material estimation, Marketing and brand positioning, Intellectual property and design rights, Portfolio development, Entrepreneurship and freelancing in furniture design.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

• Duration- 60 minutes.
• Number of Questions- 30.
• Number of Questions from each module: 5.
• Language: English.
• Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
• Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
• There is no negative marking in any module.
