Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/HF/CGFI/V1

Eligibility: 10+2 (higher Secondary) or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: The Certified Group Fitness Instructor course is designed to provide aspiring fitness professionals with the foundational knowledge and practical skills to lead safe, effective, and engaging group exercise classes. The program covers exercise science, group dynamics, class formats (cardio, strength, HIIT, flexibility, dance, etc.), music selection, cueing techniques, movement modifications, injury prevention, and motivational strategies.

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Group Fitness and Instructor Responsibilities: Overview and evolution of group fitness formats, Role and professional responsibilities of a Group Fitness Instructor, Understanding different class types: cardio, strength, dance, HIIT, mind-body, Principles of group motivation, inclusivity, and leadership, Creating a positive and engaging group exercise environment, Ethical considerations and scope of practice.

Module 2: Exercise Science and Human Anatomy: Basic musculoskeletal anatomy and movement mechanics, Cardiovascular, respiratory, and energy systems during exercise, Principles of training: overload, specificity, progression, adaptation, Understanding movement planes and functional patterns, Flexibility, mobility, and joint health for group settings, Injury prevention through balanced programming.

Module 3: Class Planning, Structure, and Choreography: Designing class formats: warm-up, main workout, cooldown, Components of strength, cardio, interval, and flexibility sessions, Choreography building for music-driven classes (e.g., dance, step), Matching music tempo and beats per minute (BPM) to movement, Structuring workouts for various intensity levels and goals, Planning weekly schedules and progressive programming.

Module 4: Cueing, Coaching, and Communication Skills: Verbal, visual, and kinesthetic cueing techniques, Voice projection, clarity, and body language in group instruction, Real-time coaching and correcting form safely, Creating energy and engagement in diverse group settings, Managing mixed fitness levels within the same class, Building confidence, trust, and motivation through positive coaching.

Module 5: Special Populations, Modifications, and Safety: Modifying exercises for seniors, prenatal/postnatal, and beginners, Low-impact alternatives for joint or medical considerations, Recognizing signs of overexertion, fatigue, and dehydration, Pre-class screening, safety checks, and risk management, Emergency procedures and first aid readiness in group settings, Legal liability, insurance, and safety compliance.

Module 6: Professional Practice, Business, and Career Growth: Career paths in gyms, studios, corporate wellness, and online platforms, Marketing strategies and building a client base, Class management tools: attendance, feedback, scheduling, Time management and professionalism as a fitness leader, Continuing education and specialty certifications, Networking and community building in the fitness industry.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
