Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/AT/CLAPS/V1

Eligibility: Graduation or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: This course provides an in-depth understanding of Lean principles and their application within the apparel production environment. Participants will learn how to identify and eliminate waste in the manufacturing process, streamline workflows, and improve overall operational efficiency. The curriculum covers key Lean methodologies, including value stream mapping, continuous improvement (Kaizen), 5S workplace organization, and just-in-time (JIT) production. 

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Module 1: Introduction to Lean Manufacturing in Apparel: Overview of Lean Manufacturing Principles, History and Evolution of Lean in the Apparel Industry, Key Lean Concepts (Waste Reduction, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, etc.), Importance of Lean in Apparel Production, Identifying and Eliminating Non-Value-Added Activities, Lean vs. Traditional Manufacturing Methods.

Module 2: Waste Identification and Elimination in Apparel Production: Understanding the 7 Wastes (TIMWOOD) in Apparel Manufacturing, Identifying Waste in Raw Materials, Processes, and Time, Techniques for Minimizing Fabric Waste, Reducing Waiting Time and Overproduction, Streamlining Inventory Management and Over-processing, Implementing Just-in-Time (JIT) Manufacturing in Apparel.

Module 3: Value Stream Mapping and Process Optimization: Introduction to Value Stream Mapping (VSM) in Apparel, Mapping the Entire Production Process from Design to Delivery, Analyzing Bottlenecks and Delays in the Value Stream, Streamlining Processes for Maximum Efficiency, Implementing Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) in Apparel Production, Tracking Performance Metrics for Process Improvement.

Module 4: Lean Tools and Techniques for Apparel Production: Overview of Key Lean Tools (5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, SMED), Implementing 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) in Apparel Factories, Using Kanban for Inventory Control, Reducing Changeover Times with SMED, Using Poka-Yoke for Error Prevention, Standardizing Processes for Consistent Results.

Module 5: Workforce Involvement and Training in Lean Apparel Production: Training and Empowering Employees for Lean Success, Building a Lean Culture in Apparel Manufacturing, Developing Cross-Functional Teams, Encouraging Problem Solving and Decision-Making at All Levels, Communication and Collaboration for Lean Implementation, Leadership in Lean Apparel Production.

Module 6: Measuring and Sustaining Lean Apparel Practices: Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Lean Apparel Production, Methods for Monitoring Lean Performance (Cycle Time, Lead Time, Efficiency, etc.), Analyzing Data for Continuous Improvement, Conducting Audits and Reviews to Ensure Lean Sustainability, Scaling Lean Practices for Global Apparel Operations, Case Studies and Best Practices in Lean Apparel Manufacturing.
