Objective: The Certified Medical Records Technician course is designed to train individuals in managing, organizing, and maintaining accurate and confidential medical records in healthcare facilities. The course covers the principles of medical documentation, coding and classification systems (such as ICD and CPT), electronic health records (EHR) management, data privacy regulations, and legal aspects of health information management.

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Medical Records and Health Information Management: Definition and importance of medical records in healthcare, Roles and responsibilities of a medical records technician, Types of health records: OPD, IPD, emergency, discharge summaries, Legal and ethical aspects of health information management, Principles of confidentiality, privacy, and consent, Overview of healthcare delivery systems and documentation flow.

Module 2: Structure, Content, and Classification of Medical Records: Standard formats and contents of medical records, Clinical documentation: physician notes, nursing notes, diagnostic reports, Coding systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS) and medical abbreviations, Classification and indexing of records for easy retrieval, Importance of accurate and timely documentation, Filing systems: alphabetical, numerical, and terminal digit filing.

Module 3: Record Management, Storage, and Retrieval Systems: Manual and electronic record-keeping methods, Filing, archiving, and safe storage of paper and digital records, Retention and disposal policies as per legal requirements, Use of medical record tracking and log systems, Retrieval procedures for internal and external audits, Disaster recovery planning for record preservation.

Module 4: Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Digital Systems: Introduction to Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, EHR software components and user interface, Data entry, validation, and update procedures, Integration of lab, pharmacy, radiology, and billing systems, Security measures and access controls in digital records, Challenges and benefits of transitioning from paper to digital.

Module 5: Legal Compliance, Quality Control, and Audits: Laws governing medical records (HIPAA, RTI, NABH guidelines), Documentation standards and accuracy audits, Error identification and correction protocols, Maintaining logs and preparing for internal/external inspections, Role of medical records in legal cases and insurance claims, Ensuring completeness and consistency of clinical data.

Module 6: Professional Communication and Development: Coordinating with doctors, nurses, and administrative staff, Handling patient record requests and providing summaries, Managing confidentiality and sensitive information, Communication skills for internal and external queries, Career pathways and advancement opportunities in HIM, Continuing education, certifications, and emerging trends in health information management.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
