Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/FS/CPWSO/V1

Eligibility: Graduation or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: The Certified Permit to Work System Operator course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to implement and control permit systems in hazardous work environments such as construction, oil & gas, manufacturing, and maintenance operations. The course covers different types of permits (hot work, confined space, electrical, working at height, excavation, etc.), roles and responsibilities, risk assessment, job hazard analysis (JHA), permit issuance and closure procedures, and coordination among departments. 

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Permit to Work (PTW) System: Definition, purpose, and importance of the Permit to Work system, Types of work requiring permits (hot work, confined space, electrical, etc.), Legal and regulatory requirements related to PTW, Roles and responsibilities of a PTW System Operator, Key elements and structure of an effective PTW system, Common failures and consequences of poor PTW implementation.

Module 2: Types of Work Permits and Their Applications: Hot Work Permit: welding, grinding, cutting operations, Cold Work Permit: maintenance, cleaning, mechanical tasks, Confined Space Entry Permit and additional safety protocols, Electrical Work Permit: isolation, earthing, and testing procedures, Excavation, Work at Height, and Chemical Handling Permits, Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) and multiple permit coordination.

Module 3: Permit Issuance, Authorization, and Control Procedures: Permit request, review, and approval process flow, Verification of risk assessments and control measures, Checking isolation, lockout/tagout, and environmental conditions, Authorization levels and handover between shifts or teams, Permit display, duration, extension, and closure process, Ensuring permit validity and documentation accuracy.

Module 4: Hazard Identification, Risk Control, and Precautionary Measures: Conducting job-specific hazard identification and risk assessments, Control measures: PPE, gas testing, signage, barricading, Ensuring pre-job briefings and toolbox talks are conducted, Monitoring ongoing compliance with permit conditions, Recording deviations and enforcing corrective actions, Supervisor and operator roles in on-site safety validation.

Module 5: Communication, Coordination, and Emergency Preparedness: Effective communication between permit issuer, receiver, and workforce, Coordination of simultaneous permits and conflicting tasks, Information sharing with contractors and third-party personnel, Integration of PTW with emergency procedures and evacuation plans, Readiness checks and drills for high-risk permitted work, Immediate actions during emergencies or permit breaches.

Module 6: Audit, Recordkeeping, and Continuous Improvement: Maintaining permit logs, audit trails, and documentation standards, Conducting permit audits and compliance verification, Identifying trends, non-conformities, and recurring issues, Reviewing and updating PTW formats and procedures, Training and certification requirements for PTW users, Promoting a safety culture through effective permit systems and feedback.

  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
