Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/AD/CPD/V1

Eligibility: 10+2 (higher Secondary) or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: The Certified Publication Designer course aims to develop specialized skills in designing and producing professional, reader-friendly publications for print and digital formats. This course trains learners in visual storytelling, layout composition, typographic design, and brand consistency across long-form documents such as magazines, newspapers, books, eBooks, newsletters, and annual reports. Participants will gain hands-on experience with publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. 

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Module 1: Introduction to Publication Design: Understanding publication design and its types (magazines, books, journals, reports), Key principles of editorial and layout design, Role of a publication designer in print and digital media, Overview of publication production workflow, Difference between self-publishing and commercial publishing, Target audience and content planning.

Module 2: Typography and Text Formatting for Publications: Typography principles for long-form content, Choosing fonts for readability and aesthetics, Paragraph styles, character styles, and leading/tracking, Creating text hierarchy and flow, Managing columns, indents, and justification, Best practices for headlines, pull quotes, and captions.

Module 3: Page Layout, Grids, and Composition: Creating page layouts using grid systems, Master pages and consistent formatting, Visual balance and whitespace usage, Designing covers, TOC, and title pages, Margins, bleeds, and slug setup for printing, Organizing multi-page documents for print/digital.

Module 4: Working with Images, Graphics, and Visual Elements: Image selection, placement, and resolution requirements, Using infographics, charts, and illustrations in publications, Color management and matching with brand/editorial tone, File formats and editing linked graphics, Legal and ethical considerations in image usage, Enhancing reader engagement through visuals.

Module 5: Software Tools and Pre-Press Preparation: Using Adobe InDesign for publication design, Integrating Illustrator and Photoshop assets, Creating print-ready PDFs with proper specs, Pre-flighting, packaging, and output settings, Managing style guides and templates, Understanding digital publishing tools and formats (eBooks, interactive PDFs).

Module 6: Real-World Publication Projects and Portfolio: Designing magazines, newsletters, and books from concept to finish, Creating branding-compliant editorial layouts, Collaboration with editors, writers, and printers, Reviewing proofs and making revisions, Final production and distribution-ready files, Portfolio creation and presentation of publication design work.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
