Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/HT/CTG/V1

Eligibility: 10+2 (higher Secondary) or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: The Certified Tour Guide course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and techniques needed to lead and manage guided tours effectively. The program covers local history and culture, communication skills, customer service, safety and emergency procedures, tour planning, storytelling techniques, and handling diverse tourist groups.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Tour Guiding and Tourism Industry: Role and responsibilities of a professional tour guide, History and evolution of tour guiding as a profession, Overview of the tourism industry and its components, Types of tours: cultural, heritage, adventure, eco, culinary, and spiritual, Key organizations in tourism: UNWTO, Ministry of Tourism, state tourism boards, Qualities, ethics, and code of conduct for a successful tour guide.

Module 2: Communication and Presentation Skills: Verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, Storytelling, narration, and interpretation skills, Voice modulation, body language, and audience engagement, Public speaking and managing group dynamics, Handling diverse tourists and overcoming language barriers, Managing difficult questions and emergency communication.

Module 3: Destination Knowledge and Cultural Understanding: Overview of major domestic and international tourist attractions, Cultural heritage, traditions, festivals, and etiquette of different regions, Religious, historical, and architectural interpretation techniques, Local crafts, cuisine, and performing arts appreciation, Planning city tours, heritage walks, and theme-based experiences, Cultural sensitivity and avoiding stereotypes.

Module 4: Tour Planning, Management, and Execution: Itinerary reading and interpretation for various tour types, Time management, group coordination, and route planning, Pre-tour preparation: checklist, documentation, permits, On-ground logistics: transport, tickets, entry formalities, Ensuring tourist safety, comfort, and satisfaction throughout the tour, Coordinating with drivers, vendors, and tour managers.

Module 5: Emergency Handling, Safety, and First Aid: Handling lost items, missing tourists, and unforeseen disruptions, Dealing with medical emergencies and providing basic first aid, Managing safety protocols in natural, urban, and heritage sites, Crisis management during strikes, natural calamities, or political unrest, Understanding liability, insurance, and legal obligations of a guide, Ensuring safety of women, elderly, and children in the group.

Module 6: Professional Development and Technology in Guiding: Use of technology: GPS, translation apps, e-ticketing, virtual tours, Maintaining guest feedback, reviews, and digital presence, Sustainable and responsible guiding practices, Training, certifications, and licensing requirements for guides, Entrepreneurship and career opportunities in tour guiding, Networking with travel agencies, OTAs, and tourism boards for assignments.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
