This course covers the history, anatomy, and classification of typefaces, as well as key principles such as hierarchy, legibility, readability, alignment, spacing, and rhythm. Learners will explore how to select and manipulate typefaces to evoke emotion, enhance clarity, and support branding.

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Typography and Its History: Definition and importance of typography in design, Historical evolution of type from print to digital, Overview of type classifications (serif, sans-serif, script, decorative), Anatomy of type (baseline, x-height, ascender, descender, etc.), Influence of famous typographers and type movements, Role of typography in branding and communication.

Module 2: Type Anatomy, Terminology, and Classification: Understanding letterforms and structural elements of type, Key typography terms (kerning, tracking, leading, hierarchy), Classification systems (Old Style, Transitional, Modern, Slab Serif, etc.), Typeface families and font styles, Choosing type based on context and function, Identifying and pairing typefaces effectively.

Module 3: Typography for Print and Digital Media: Best practices for setting type in print layouts (books, posters, brochures), Typography for screen: legibility, scalability, and resolution, Responsive typography and fluid type systems, Typographic hierarchy and visual rhythm, Formatting long-form and short-form content, Working with type grids and column structures.

Module 4: Creative Typography and Expressive Design: Designing with type as a visual element, Experimental and kinetic typography, Using type in posters, album covers, and advertising, Lettering vs. typography vs. calligraphy, Creating mood and tone through typographic choices, Integrating typography with photography and illustration.

Module 5: Typography Tools, Software, and Techniques: Working with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Figma for type design, Advanced text formatting and style management, Font management and licensing best practices, Introduction to font creation tools (FontForge, Glyphs, FontLab), Using grids and guides for precise type alignment, Accessibility and inclusive typography for all users.

Module 6: Typography Projects and Portfolio Development: Creating typographic posters, editorial spreads, and logo-based type designs, Real-world projects including branding and digital ads, Receiving and incorporating critique and feedback, Preparing type-focused case studies and mockups, Assembling a specialized typography portfolio, Presenting and articulating design rationale professionally.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
