Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an important initiative by GSDCI (Global Skills Development Council of India) that aims to give value and recognition to the skills people have learned through their own work experience, without formal classroom education. Many people in India gain skills by working in the field, in shops, factories, farms, or by learning from others — but they don’t have any certificate to prove their knowledge. RPL helps such individuals get certified for what they already know.

Under the RPL program, GSDCI organizes assessments to test a candidate’s knowledge and practical skills in their respective field. If the candidate successfully meets the required standards, they are awarded an RPL certificate,  which is Globally recognized and accepted by industries and employers. This recognition helps workers improve their job security, increase income, and access better job opportunities.

The RPL process includes orientation, skill testing, gap training (if needed), and finally certification. It’s simple, low-cost, and specially designed for people from informal sectors such as construction, electrical work, plumbing, tailoring, beauty services, agriculture, and more. Even self-employed people can benefit from RPL to show proof of their skills.

GSDCI’s RPL program also supports workforce development by making sure that experienced workers are not left behind. It bridges the gap between informal learning and formal recognition, helping India build a more skilled and certified workforce.
