Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/M/CRC/V1

Eligibility: Graduation or Equivalent or minimum 2 years of relevant experience (experience-based learners can directly enroll and certify).

Objective: The Certified Retail Cashier course is designed to equip professionals with the essential skills and knowledge to perform cashier duties efficiently in a retail environment. The program covers cash handling, point-of-sale (POS) systems, billing, customer service, inventory management, and transaction accuracy. Participants learn to manage cash and electronic payments securely, handle returns and exchanges, provide excellent customer interactions, and maintain accurate records.

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card (Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Module 1 (Introduction & Role of the Retail Cashier): Role and responsibilities of a cashier in a retail environment, Overview of the retail industry and store formats, Ethics, integrity, and professionalism in cashiering, Workplace appearance, communication, and customer-facing behavior, Cashier’s contribution to customer experience, Understanding store policies and cash point governance

Module 2 (Cash & Payment Handling): Types of payment methods (cash, cards, digital wallets), Counting cash and giving change accurately, Handling large denominations and notes verification, Cash drawer management and float control, Payment processing for non-cash transactions, Procedures for safe storage and cash drops

Module 3 (Point of Sale (POS) Operations): Familiarity with POS systems and user interface, Scanning items and adding to transaction, Applying discounts, coupons, or promotions, Processing returns, refunds, and exchanges, Suspending / resuming sales, Generating bills, receipts, and invoices

Module 4 (Customer Service at Checkout): Greeting and assisting customers at the checkout point, Handling difficult customers or payment disputes, Communication skills and active listening, Speed vs accuracy trade-offs during peak hours, Building customer rapport and upselling, Managing queues and wait times professionally

Module 5 (Security, Loss Prevention & Fraud Control): Identifying and preventing counterfeit currency, Recognizing suspicious payment behavior or fraud, Safe register practices and access control, Internal controls for overages and shortages, Reporting discrepancies, theft or security incidents, Collaborating with loss-prevention teams

Module 6 (Reconciliation, Reporting & Professional Growth): End-of-day cash drawer reconciliation, Balancing transactions with POS reports, Recording overages/shortages and reporting them, Preparing and submitting daily transactional reports, Career pathway in retail (from cashier to front-end lead), Continuous improvement: learning new payment technologies and customer service practices

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
