Course Name: Certified Arc Welding Technician

Global Occupational Skill Standard – GOSS ID: GOSS/C/CAWT/V1

Eligibility: 10th (High School) or Equivalent.

Duration: Three Months.

Objective: The objective of the Certificate in Arc Welding Technology course is to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge and hands-on skills in arc welding processes, including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). The course covers welding equipment setup, electrode selection, welding techniques, joint preparation, safety procedures, and quality control.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of the online assessment, the soft copy of your certificate will be sent to your registered email ID within 5 days.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Arc Welding: Overview of arc welding processes, Types of arc welding (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW), Welding safety and hazards, Roles and responsibilities of an arc welder, Basic welding terminology, Welding equipment components.

Module 2: Welding Equipment and Consumables: Arc welding machines and power sources, Electrode types and classifications, Welding cables and accessories, Shielding gases and fluxes, Selection of welding consumables, Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

Module 3: Welding Techniques and Procedures: Setting welding parameters (current, voltage, polarity), Electrode preparation and handling, Welding positions and techniques, Joint preparation and fit-up, Striking and maintaining the arc, Controlling bead shape and penetration.

Module 4: Welding Different Materials: Arc welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other metals, Pre-welding cleaning and preparation, Heat treatment considerations, Welding dissimilar metals, Post-weld inspection and cleaning, Avoiding common defects.

Module 5: Quality Control and Inspection: Visual inspection criteria for weld quality, Identifying welding defects (porosity, cracks, slag inclusion), Non-destructive testing methods, Weld documentation and standards compliance, Repair and rework procedures, Continuous quality improvement.

Module 6: Safety and Environmental Practices: Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), Electrical safety and fire prevention, Ventilation and fume control, Safe handling of gases and consumables, Waste management and environmental regulations, Emergency response and first aid.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Duration- 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
  • There is no negative marking in any module.
