Eligibility: Graduation or Equivalent is required.

Objective: The Certified Machine Guarding Specialist course is designed to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge of machine hazards and the methods used to protect workers from mechanical injuries. The course covers types of machine hazards (crush, shear, entanglement, cutting), types of guards and safeguarding devices (fixed, interlocked, adjustable, presence-sensing), risk assessment techniques, and control measures. 

Certification: Within 5 days after Completion of Online Assessment.

Steps to become a GSDCI Certified Professional:

Step 1: Select your certification you want to pursue.

Step 2: Click on get certified tab, new pop up window will open.

Step 3: Click on pay certification fee, you will be redirected to billing details page.

Step 4: Fill your details and click on pay certification fee, You will be redirected to payment gateway, pay fee by any available options like Card(Debit/Credit), Wallet, Paytm, Net banking, UPI and Google pay.

Step 5: You will get Login Credentials of Online E-Books and Online assessment link on your email id, within 48 hrs of payment.

Step 6: After completion of online assessment, you can download your Certificate Immediately.

Assessment Modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Machine Guarding and Regulatory Framework: Importance of machine guarding in industrial safety, Overview of machine hazards and injury statistics, Legal and regulatory standards (OSHA, IS, ISO, ANSI), Types of machinery requiring guarding in various industries, Responsibilities of a Machine Guarding Specialist, Introduction to mechanical, electrical, thermal, and kinetic hazards.

Module 2: Types of Machine Guards and Safety Devices: Fixed guards, interlocked guards, adjustable guards, self-adjusting guards, Safety devices: light curtains, pressure mats, presence-sensing devices, Control systems: emergency stops, two-hand controls, automatic shutoffs, Comparison of guarding methods based on application, Strengths and limitations of each guard type, Proper selection and combination of guards and devices.

Module 3: Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment in Machinery Operations: Recognizing pinch points, shear points, nip points, crush zones, Conducting machine-specific hazard assessments, Application of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and HIRA, Fire, noise, vibration, and ergonomic risks related to machines, Using checklists for periodic inspection of machine guarding, Documenting and prioritizing machine-related hazards.

Module 4: Machine Guard Design, Installation, and Ergonomics: Principles of effective guard design (durability, visibility, minimal interference), Material selection for guards (metal, polycarbonate, mesh), Proper installation and alignment of machine guards, Ergonomic considerations to avoid operator fatigue or injury, Ensuring compatibility with machine maintenance requirements, Guarding for automated and robotic systems.

Module 5: Inspection, Maintenance, and Compliance Verification: Routine and preventive maintenance of guarding systems, Inspection schedules and documentation procedures, Identifying tampering, bypassing, and damaged guards, Ensuring alignment with safety audits and compliance checklists, Role of supervisors and operators in guard upkeep, Tagging, isolation, and lockout-tagout during maintenance.

Module 6: Training, Awareness, and Incident Investigation: Developing and delivering machine guarding training for workers, Visual communication aids: signage, labels, color codes, Promoting safety culture and guard-use discipline, Investigating guarding-related incidents and near misses, Root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions, Continuous improvement strategies and case studies on guarding success/failure.

GSDCI Online Assessment Detail:

  • Number of Questions- 30.
  • Number of Questions from each module: 5.
  • Language: English.
  • Exam Type: Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Maximum Marks- 100, Passing Marks- 50%.
